Haryana to sell rented, leased government properties

The Haryana government has recently announced the implementation of ‘The Haryana Disposal of Rented Government Properties Policy 2023’. The policy aims to facilitate the sale of properties that have been leased or rented by private entities for a period of 20 years or more. This policy is applicable to government departments, boards, corporations, and authorities, except for the departments of tourism, transport, and health and family welfare. Additionally, it does not apply to shamlat lands, panchayat lands, panchayat samiti, and zila parishad lands.

The chief secretary of Haryana, Sanjeev Kaushal, explained that the policy would only be applicable to “property parcels” of up to 100 sq yards per beneficiary/land parcel. He also outlined the rules for charging those who have possession of the property for varying periods of time.

Those with property possession exceeding 20 years but less than 25 years will be charged 80% of the circle rate. Similarly, those who have had possession of the property for 30 years or more but less than 35 years will be charged 75% of the circle rate, while those with possession of 35 years or more but less than 40 years will have to pay 65%. Those who have had possession of the property for 40 years or more but less than 45 years will be charged 60% of the circle rate, and those with possession for 45 years or more but less than 50 years will be charged 55% of the circle rate. Those who have had possession of the property for 50 years will have to pay 50% of the circle rate.

This policy has been implemented to help the government to dispose of the rented government properties that have been under private possession for a long time. By selling these properties, the government aims to generate revenue and put the properties to better use.
