GMC announces tax rebates and crackdown on defaulters

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) mayor Mrigen Sarania announced that property taxpayers who pay their taxes in the first two months of the next fiscal year will receive a 10% rebate.
The mayor was inaugurating a new bus queue shelter in Dispur, Guwahati at the time of the announcement. He specified that property owners who pay their taxes between April 1st and May 31st of the next financial year will qualify for the 10% reduction on property tax amounts. A similar incentive was provided last year as well, with the goal of encouraging more residents to pay their dues on time and contribute to the city's development.
Previously in February, over 50 warrants were issued by GMC against tax defaulters totalling over INR 2 crore in outstanding payments. Many defaulters came forward to settle their dues after receiving warrants, while others currently face legal action.
As part of improving public transportation, GMC is establishing 45 new bus queue shelters across Guwahati equipped with amenities like Wi-Fi and CCTV cameras, at a cost of approximately Rs 3.15 crore. The mayor inaugurated one such shelter near the Assam Secretariat in Dispur on the occasion.
