Maharashtra State Government plans to invite builders for SRA projects via tenders

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, recently announced that the state government plans to introduce a new policy to expedite Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) projects. According to Fadnavis, builders will be invited through a tender process for the construction of buildings while the government will handle preliminary work, such as clearing plots and determining eligibility of slum dwellers. The new policy aims to complete delayed SRA projects in a timely manner and help thousands of families who have been suffering as a result of the delays.

The government's new policy will allow builders to focus solely on the construction of buildings. Once the government clears the plot and tenders are floated, the builder will be given permission to build the saleable component only after they have completed the rehabilitation component. This will ensure that the projects are completed efficiently and on time, as per the project size.

Fadnavis addressed the Legislative Council and stated that SRA projects have been facing various delays, which have been causing significant distress to families. To mitigate these delays, the government will invite builders in the final stage to construct the buildings. The government hopes that this new policy will help to speed up the completion of SRA projects.

During the address, Fadnavis cited an example of the Sindhu Nagar SRA project in Sewri. The builder of the project had paid Rs 24 crore in rent that was due, and the state has now asked the builder to submit a program for completing the project. This is an indication of the government's commitment to completing SRA projects in a timely and efficient manner and ensuring that families are not left waiting for their homes.

Slum rehabilitation has been a major concern in Mumbai for several years, as the city has a large population of slum dwellers. The SRA was established to provide a comprehensive solution to the problem of slums in Mumbai by providing better living conditions to slum dwellers through rehabilitation, relocation, and redevelopment of slums. The authority was created to provide slum dwellers with alternative accommodation, and to ensure that the infrastructure in these areas is improved.

The government's new policy is expected to provide a boost to SRA projects, which have been facing delays due to various factors such as land acquisition, approvals from multiple agencies, and lack of funds. The new policy will enable builders to focus on the construction aspect of the projects, while the government will take care of the necessary preliminary work.

In conclusion, the state government's new policy to expedite SRA projects is a positive step towards providing better living conditions to slum dwellers in Mumbai. The policy will help to ensure that these projects are completed efficiently and on time and will help thousands of families who have been waiting for their homes.
