Allahabad HC to monitor civic upkeep in Noida society

The Allahabad high court will oversee the progress of civic work at a township developed by the Noida Authority after residents alleged that the area lacked basic facilities for more than two decades. The RWA of Express View Apartments (Super MIG) in Sector 93 filed a petition last year, alleging "inaction" on the part of the Authority despite several letters and reminders. The Authority had developed the township in 2002, and it is currently home to around 5,000 people living in 1,008 flats.

RWA President Sujit Kumar Pandey said that the Authority had not developed any of the facilities mentioned in the plan, and residents were forced to travel 2km to the nearest shop in Gejha village, which could be risky at night. Furthermore, a former RWA member, Vikram Srivastava, complained of waterlogging and clogged drains.

The Authority said in its affidavit that it had all the intentions to develop the area in keeping with the layout plan. The CEO informed the court that the process of development had been initiated in 2022, and tenders for the construction of a nursing home, community centre, and a commercial complex had been invited. The Authority also said it would begin construction of the facilities in six months.

During a hearing on March 2, the high court directed the Authority to proceed with the tendering process without any delay. The court took note of the fact that there had been no action on the part of the Noida Authority for 20 years and proposed to monitor the progress of the proposed constructions. The court also asked the Authority to file a progress report on April 3, the next date of hearing.

The Noida Authority is responsible for the development of Noida, a satellite city of Delhi. It was established in 1976 and has been responsible for the planning and development of infrastructure, housing, and commercial facilities in Noida. It is also responsible for the development of industrial areas and has been instrumental in the establishment of several IT and manufacturing companies in Noida.

The Authority has been criticized in the past for its failure to develop basic infrastructure in the city, resulting in problems such as traffic congestion, waterlogging, and poor public transport. In recent years, however, the Authority has taken steps to address these issues by improving road networks, developing new residential and commercial areas, and expanding public transport services. The Authority has also been involved in several initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development and environmental conservation in the city.

Overall, the Noida Authority's role in the development of Noida is crucial, and it is essential that it fulfils its responsibilities effectively. The high court's decision to monitor the progress of the township developed by the Authority is a positive step towards ensuring that residents have access to basic facilities and that the Authority is held accountable for its actions.
