The Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana destroys illegal structures in demolition drive

Last week, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) conducted a demolition drive which resulted in the razing of five illegal buildings in the city. The action was taken against two residential and one commercial building in Kunj Vihar, one industrial construction in Noor Villa, and one commercial construction on Malhi road. The MC has been conducting drives against illegal constructions, and in this case, the owners were given warnings to get their building plans approved, but they failed to comply.

The civic authorities have been carrying out regular drives to remove encroachments and illegal structures from different parts of the city. Despite repeated warnings, many people continue to violate building by-laws and construct buildings without any approval, leading to the demolition of such structures. During the drive, the civic officials faced some resistance from the building owners and their supporters, but the police were present to ensure that the demolition was carried out smoothly.

According to the MC Commissioner, Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, the demolition drive will continue, and strict action will be taken against those who violate building by-laws. He has appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities and not to construct illegal buildings. He stressed on the MC’s zero tolerance policy for illegal constructions, urging individuals to do thorough checks and obtain necessary approvals before constructing or carrying out any modifications to existing structures they own.

In an interview captured by ET Realty, MC assistant town planner (ATP) M S Bedi said that building inspectors have been directed to check illegal construction activities in their respective areas. The civic body has also been receiving complaints against illegal activities, following which the demolition drive was organized. The MC commissioner Dr Shena Aggarwal had directed building branch officials to demolish the under-construction buildings if the owners failed to get building plans approved by authorities.

It is important to get building plans approved from the civic body before constructing any building to ensure that the construction is compliant with the building bylaws. Failure to obtain approvals can lead to legal action against the owners, and their buildings may be demolished. The MC's drive against illegal constructions will continue in the future to ensure the safety and compliance of buildings in the area.
