Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Ravindra Chavan, representing Dombivli assembly constituency, recently led discussions with officials to address the issue of deteriorating roads in the area. Acknowledging the financial constraints faced by local bodies, Chavan proposed upgrading these roads to district roads, enabling the state government to take on their reconstruction. The reconstruction will address the road maintenance issues, including potholes.
This move was prompted because of the poor conditions of roads in integrated townships like Palava City and Casa Rio, developed by the Lodha Group. A fund allocation proposal has been submitted to the state government for approval. With the finance department earmarking Rs18.50 crore in the supplementary demands presented by PWD during the winter session of the assembly, this is a great step ahead.
The targeted roads, Kalyan-Shil Road and Nilje-Palava Road, fall under the jurisdiction of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and Thane Zilla Parishad, respectively, serving as vital connections to Mahape, Navi Mumbai, and Mumbai.
Residents in Palava City and Casa Rio have long endured the challenges posed by poorly maintained roads, prompting the decision to seek state government intervention for their reconstruction. These integrated townships are home to thousands of residents facing the daily inconveniences caused by pothole-ridden roads. This strategic move allows the state government to assume responsibility for the reconstruction efforts, ensuring that these crucial transport arteries receive the necessary attention.

On the same lines, in October, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) agreed to grant a 66% concession in property tax to thousands of flat owners in Palava City along Kalyan-Shil Road. This decision, made during a meeting attended by PWD Minister Ravindra Chavan, MP Shrikant Shinde, and civic officials, aimed to relieve residents of the dual burden of property taxes and the challenges posed by poorly maintained roads. The concession in property tax aligns with broader efforts to alleviate the financial burden on residents and enhance the overall living experience in these integrated townships.
