NHAI and DC MultiModal Park collaborate for Rs 673 Crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Nagpur

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recently formalized an agreement with DC Multi Modal Park (Nagpur), a private company, to undertake the development of a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Nagpur. This noteworthy venture, with an estimated cost of Rs 673 crore, will encompass an expansive area spanning 150 acres. The strategic partnership has been structured under the aegis of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, signifying a crucial step toward strengthening logistics capabilities in Maharashtra.
This MMLP initiative is a pivotal component of the Bharatmala Project, wherein NHAI's subsidiary, the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML), has been entrusted with the task of establishing 35 multimodal logistics parks nationwide. The overarching objective is to catalyse seamless freight logistics, minimizing costs and time, while concurrently fortifying warehousing facilities and refining the tracking and traceability of consignments. The Nagpur logistics park stands as the fifth project approved within this framework.
The geographical location of the Nagpur MMLP is integral to its significance. It is strategically positioned at a distance of around 3 km from the Nagpur – Mumbai Maha-Samruddhi Mahamarg. Additionally, the proximity to the Howrah – Nagpur – Mumbai rail line further enhances its accessibility. The project site is also conveniently accessible via the four-lane Nagpur – Aurangabad National Highway 361, contributing to its multimodal connectivity. This comprehensive accessibility strategy extends to rail infrastructure, with a 3.0 km rail siding from the Sindi Railway station in the Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai rail line, which is already nearing completion.
Furthermore, the MMLP site is approximately 48 km from Nagpur International Airport and 56 km from Nagpur railway station, ensuring comprehensive connectivity to various transportation modes.
The developmental trajectory of the Nagpur MMLP is envisioned across three distinct phases, each designed to optimize logistics functionalities progressively. Phase-I, requiring an investment of Rs. 137 crore, is anticipated to conclude within a two-year timeframe. This phase will lay the foundation for subsequent expansions, gradually transforming the logistics park into a hub of unparalleled efficiency. The phased approach aligns with the project's commitment to ensuring meticulous planning, seamless execution, and the incorporation of best practices in logistics infrastructure development.
The significance of the Nagpur MMLP extends beyond its immediate economic implications. As part of the broader governmental agenda, this project is intricately linked to the vision of enhancing the country's freight logistics sector. By streamlining intermodal freight movement, the initiative aims to significantly reduce overall freight costs and transit times. The optimization of warehousing facilities is poised to enhance the storage and distribution capabilities, fostering greater efficiency in the logistics sector. Additionally, the project will contribute to improved tracking and traceability of consignments, a critical factor in the contemporary logistics landscape.
In essence, the NHAI's collaboration with DC MultiModal Park (Nagpur) for the development of the Nagpur MMLP marks a significant stride in realizing the objectives outlined in the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and the Bharatmala Project. As the fifth logistics park approved under this framework, the Nagpur MMLP stands to emerge as a beacon of efficient logistics management, seamlessly integrating various transportation modes and serving as a model for future multimodal logistics infrastructure projects across the country.
