In a significant development, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) recently announced that its subsidiary, L&T Construction, has secured a substantial contract for the construction of the Bhogapuram International Airport project in Andhra Pradesh. Although the exact value of the contract was not disclosed, it falls within the category of large orders valued between Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,000 crore, as per the company's classification.
The Bhogapuram International Airport project is a greenfield venture that will be developed initially to handle a capacity of 6 million passengers per annum (MPA), with plans for further enhancement to accommodate 12 MPA, according to L&T's official statement. The contract was awarded by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited and covers key development aspects such as cut and fill works, terminal construction with airport systems, the construction of the air traffic control (ATC) tower, airfield development works (including a 3,800 m long south runway, apron, taxiways, airfield ground lighting, fuel hydrant works, and other necessary facilities), landside facilities like roads and landscapes, utilities, and additional support facilities.
