Mira Road’s dream of a dedicated court facility has been a long time coming. For over a decade, the local community has been promised a judicial complex, but delays and bureaucratic hurdles have kept justice seekers waiting. Finally, as the finishing touches are applied to a three-story judicial complex, we can see a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
The state government's approval for this court, over ten years ago, was a ray of hope for Mira Road's residents. However, it's a dream that has been marred by missed deadlines, budgetary constraints, and the complex task of recruiting court staff. Yet, amidst these challenges, the optimism of the people, especially local legislator Pratap Sarnaik and the legal fraternity, remains undeterred.
Sarnaik, along with legal professionals, officials from the state's public works department, and the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, recently conducted an inspection of the nearly completed court complex. Their visit revealed that the structure and all final touches, including interiors, furniture, fixtures, and remaining tasks, have been meticulously completed. The municipal commissioner has provided assurance that an occupancy certificate (OC) will be issued in the coming days, marking a significant step towards formally handing over the court complex to the law and judiciary department.
Despite this progress, there are still challenges to overcome. The town planning department, tasked with issuing occupancy certificates, faces delays due to pending no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the tree authority and the fire department. The recruitment of court staff is another complex and time-consuming process, with the official staffing pattern still awaiting approval. Additionally, the fate of residential quarters for judges remains uncertain.
Pratap Sarnaik has pledged to take up these matters in the upcoming winter session of the state assembly in Nagpur. His determination to collaborate with relevant ministers to secure approval for the staffing pattern and expedite recruitment highlights the urgency of addressing these issues.
The significance of this court goes beyond bricks and mortar; it represents access to justice for the residents of Mira Road. Scores of litigants from the region have been forced to make the arduous journey to Thane for their civil and criminal cases, while the police have had to navigate busy state and national highways to present suspects and accused individuals before the court.
The imminent operation of the Mira Road court is not just a testament to the tenacity of the local community and their representatives; it is a beacon of justice that will serve the people, improve access to legal remedies, and streamline the judicial process. The long wait is nearly over, and the day is fast approaching when the people of Mira Road will have a court of their own, a testament to the resilience of a community's pursuit of justice.
