Roostels India diversifies into co-living and backpacker space with Roadies Rostel

Roostels India, the master licensee for the Roadies Rostel brand, has revealed plans for expansion into new travel segments such as backpackers and co-living accommodations. The company, which initially started as an experiential holiday brand tied to the popular Roadies reality show, launched its first holiday resort in Ahmedabad earlier this year. According to Ankit Gupta, the founder and director of business development at Roostels India, the company intends to grow all three products—Roadies Rostel Leisure, Roadies Rostel Backpackers, and Roadies Rostel Co-living—in parallel. While the flagship Roadies Rostel Leisure brand will expand to popular holiday destinations, the other two brands will explore opportunities in a mix of leisure, city, and business locations.
Roadies Rostel Backpackers will target young backpackers with a mix of rooms and bunk beds, catering to the adventurous and budget-conscious traveller. Roadies Rostel Co-living, on the other hand, will be designed for both short and long-term stays, including corporate guests. Cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune have been identified as potential co-living brand locations.
Roostels India's first adventure-themed resort, Roadies Rostel Leisure Are in Ahmedabad, spread over 8 acres of land, has received positive feedback since its opening a few months ago. The company plans to expand this property by adding 40 cottages, banquet space, and other amenities to meet the diverse demands of the market. Additionally, the company is working on multiple projects in Goa, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand for its leisure brand. The next leisure property is planned in Goa, covering a 10-acre area.
Roostels India is open to both greenfield and conversion projects and is primarily adopting the franchise model for expansion. The company is willing to explore joint ventures or equity investments in projects that enhance the brand's value in key destinations. One of the key advantages highlighted by Gupta is the strong social media presence of the Roadies brand, with over 40 million followers. This extensive follower base, comprising successful entrepreneurs, presents investment opportunities in hospitality products.
The company aims to sign at least 15 franchise locations for Roadies Rostel by the end of the current financial year. As Roostels India continues to expand its footprint and cater to diverse traveller preferences, the brand's unique offerings and strategic approach position it as a significant player in the evolving hospitality landscape.
