H-RERA Gurugram branch resolves over 25,500 complaints in five years

The Gurugram branch of the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (H-RERA) has resolved over 25,500 complaints from allottees since it was established in 2018.The Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority’s Gurugram branch has passed more than 7,000 judgments and overseen the transfer of 2.5 lakh units during this time. 

According to the H-RERA Gurugram Chairman, KK Khandelwal, the aim of the chief minister of Haryana was to bring relief to homebuyers and boost the real estate sector, which the Gurugram branch has successfully achieved in five years. The authority has received a total of 25,509 complaints to date, out of which 12,640 cases were taken to court and the rest were resolved between the parties with the regulator’s intervention.

According to Khandelwal, the RERA court has ruled on 4,115 cases concerning delayed possession and ordered developers to pay complainants a total of Rs 3,500 crore. Additionally, the court has made decisions on 2,246 cases regarding refunds, resulting in complainants receiving Rs 2,500 crore from the developers. Khandelwal stated that this level of recovery was unprecedented before the establishment of RERA. 

Khandelwal believes that developers are now following regulations and laws, with over 3.5 lakh units in various projects being directly monitored. Over 2.54 lakh units have already been handed over to buyers, which is a remarkable accomplishment. He also highlighted that the regulator has set a positive precedent by ensuring that developers complete projects within a specified time frame and transfer units as per their commitment.

The Real Estate Regulation and Development Act of 2016 aims to safeguard the rights of buyers and enhance investment in the real estate sector.
