Kerala allots Rs. 1,436.26 bn for projects involving affordable housing

The Kerala government's most recent financial allocations which include support programmes for projects that would result in affordable housing is a relief for many even if the cost of building a home remains high for those with lower incomes. The State Budget has set up Rs. 1,436.26 crore for Life Mission programmes which will enable the completion of 71,861 homes and 30 housing complexes in the upcoming fiscal year.

The Grihasree programme of the Kerala State Housing Board is anticipated to facilitate the completion of 415 homes with state government subsidy. For the upcoming fiscal year, the budget has set aside Rs 12.45 crore to cover the subsidy amount. Officials from the Housing Board note that the amount is 24% higher from the prior fiscal year. Economically weaker groups and lower income groups will benefit from a separate grant of Rs. 10 crores to realise their housing goals.

Aswas Rental Housing Scheme which intends to offer housing for rent to bystanders of patients enrolled in State-run government medical institutes. It is anticipated to alleviate the issue of witnesses having trouble locating reasonable lodging during emergencies. The project would begin with a budget of Rs 4 crore.

Another project that the Housing Board will consider is the creation of a residential housing complex for government employees on a rental basis. The facility's realisation will be aided by the most recent Budgetary grant of 9.50 crore. A separate financial allocation of Rs 1 crore has been authorised for the proposal to establish a paying guest facility for women close to the Kozhikode Government Medical College.
