Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, recently announced the approval of a new masterplan for Faridabad, known as the Faridabad Development Plan-2031. Under this plan, development will be strategically executed by designating the area near the Yamuna canal as a "controlled area". Khattar highlighted the opportunities arising from the development of the Jewar Airport in Noida, stating that it presents new possibilities for the adjoining Faridabad and Palwal districts in Haryana.
Khattar made this declaration during a meeting of the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FDA) held in Faridabad. The meeting was attended by Krishna Pal Gurjar, Faridabad MP and Union Minister of State for Energy and Heavy Industries; Mool Chand Sharma, Haryana Transport Minister; and Kamal Gupta, State Urban Local Bodies Minister.
During the meeting, a budget of Rs 878.23 crore was approved for the fiscal year 2023-24. This allocation is aimed at accelerating the development of Faridabad by focusing on infrastructure enhancement, citizen services, and environmental improvements. The projects considered in this budget are designed to address the future population growth and the related infrastructure needs of Faridabad by 2031.
One key aspect of the development plan is the provision of potable water. The FDA is currently working on constructing 12 new ranney wells to ensure a sufficient supply of bulk drinking water for the present and future population of Faridabad. The city presently has a water supply capacity of 330 million litres per day (MLD), which will increase to 450 MLD with the addition of these new wells.
The plan also addresses sewage treatment. Presently, Faridabad has sewage treatment plants (STPs) with a total capacity of 272.5 MLD for treating 380 MLD of domestic wastewater. It's anticipated that domestic sewage production will rise to 630 MLD by 2031 and 672 MLD by 2040. The new masterplan includes provisions to accommodate these growing requirements.
Additionally, Khattar announced the approval of a proposal to enhance a 20-kilometer-long four-lane road along the Agra canal in Greater Faridabad. This road project will involve the construction of two additional lanes and the strengthening of the existing two-lane road. It's expected to provide improved connectivity to Delhi, Noida, Meerut, Bulandshahr, the Yamuna Expressway, and the Faridabad-Jewar Airport Road. The project, estimated at Rs 278 crore, will be executed by the Uttar Pradesh irrigation department.
To enhance security measures in Faridabad, the government has plans to bolster CCTV surveillance. A proposal for the installation of approximately 1,009 cameras at various locations across the city was presented and approved.
