VMRDA initiates development of 46 RC layouts to for Visakhapatnam farmers

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has embarked on a ground breaking initiative to create 46 reconstituted (RC) layouts for farmers who contributed their land during the land-pooling process for one-cent layouts. This substantial endeavour covers an extensive area of approximately 1,215 acres and comes with a staggering expenditure of Rs 200 crore.

The land pooling process in the combined Visakhapatnam district witnessed the contribution of around 5,000 acres for the creation of one-cent layouts. Subsequently, VMRDA was entrusted with the task of developing these layouts, aimed at providing shelter for approximately 1.42 lakh homeless beneficiaries. Remarkably, this marks the highest number of layouts ever developed by VMRDA within a single year since its inception.

These layouts are strategically distributed across various areas, including Anakapalli, Anandapuram, Gajuwaka, Peda Gantyada, Padmanabham, Parawada, Pendurthi, Sabbavaram, among others.

The distribution of land to farmers adheres to a set of predefined norms, with the share of land allocated per acre varying based on documentation and land category. Factors such as assignees, encroachments on unobjectionable government land, and encroachments on objectionable government land influence the distribution process.

In a noteworthy development, the Visakhapatnam district administration submitted a report to the government advocating for the exemption of stamp duty and registration fees for farmers executing conveyance deeds. Consequently, the state government issued an official order on September 16, waiving these charges for the benefit of the farmers.

Dr. A Mallikarjuna, the Visakhapatnam district collector, who also serves as the VMRDA metropolitan commissioner, expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing project and added that the conveyance deed process is expected to conclude in the coming weeks, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing development efforts aimed at providing homes for the region's homeless population.
