Roadblocks and unauthorized activities stall Noida's Sports City Project in Sector 79

In Sector 79 of Noida, the ambitious Sports City project has hit a roadblock, with residents and stakeholders expressing their concerns over the project's stagnant progress and the encroachment of its land. The project initially aimed to combine the development of sports infrastructure with housing projects, but it has been plagued by delays and unauthorized activities on its premises.

One of the primary concerns raised by residents is the failure of the project to meet the basic license requirements for developing sports infrastructure alongside housing. This deficiency has left the project in a state of limbo, preventing it from moving forward as intended.

Residents have reported that the Sports City project has fallen victim to encroachment by small sports academies and local vendors. These unauthorized occupants have taken over various areas within the project site, raising questions about the Noida Authority's ability to protect its land and uphold its development standards.

Some of the encroachments involve local vendors setting up temporary stalls and tin shades on vacant plots, which not only disrupt the project's aesthetics but also raise concerns about land misuse. Additionally, illegal soil excavation and sale from certain plots have further added to the project's woes.

Residents claim that despite multiple complaints, the authorities have yet to take decisive steps to prevent encroachments and ensure the completion of the project. In March, the Noida Authority took action to remove shanties that had sprung up at the project site. However, these encroachments quickly resurfaced in the following months, highlighting the persistent nature of the problem.

A concerned resident disclosed that an indoor academy had recently been established on a vacant plot within the project area. This academy had erected tin sheets and established a cricket training facility, further contributing to the encroachment problem. Squatters have occupied various vacant plots and even encroached upon a 35-meter-wide greenbelt nearby.

In response to these issues, ACEO Satish Pal of Noida assured that the matter would be investigated, and appropriate action would be taken. However, residents and stakeholders remain sceptical about the authorities' ability to resolve the situation effectively.

The delays and encroachments have not only impacted the Sports City project itself but also left nearly 15,000 flat owners in approximately 15 projects within the sector in a state of uncertainty. They are eagerly awaiting the registration of their units while the Sports City project, originally envisioned to provide top-notch sports infrastructure alongside housing, remains incomplete.

In April of this year, the Allahabad High Court intervened, seeking a response from the Noida Authority regarding its decision to take action against developers for failing to complete the Sports City project on time, especially considering that the entire required land had not been allotted for the project.

In conclusion, the Sports City project in Sector 79 of Noida faces significant challenges, including delays and encroachments, which have left residents and stakeholders frustrated and concerned about the project's future. The Noida Authority's ability to address these issues effectively remains a pressing question, with legal intervention now in play to resolve the ongoing disputes.
