In a remarkable fiscal stride, the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has amassed a noteworthy sum of Rs 18 crore in property tax since the inception of the current fiscal year on April 1. This achievement coincides with the issuance of 30,000 notices, served with an intention of urgency, to property owners throughout Manesar who have defaulted on their dues. Notably, the task of distributing tax bills has been entrusted to a private entity, a strategic move aimed at streamlining the process. This decisive approach has yielded the most robust tax collection figure since the formation of the civic body nearly three years ago.
In the past, only those individuals seeking a no-dues certificate exhibited compliance by settling their property tax obligations. The evolution in the tax landscape can be attributed to the strategic reallocation of resources. Sahil Gupta, the MCM commissioner, stated that the tax had not been collected in the past. To address this, a proactive step was taken to involve an external agency, along with deploying extra personnel, to ensure the effective distribution of property tax bills. This concerted endeavour has translated into a tangible surge in revenue generation through tax collection, as underscored by the vigorous distribution of property tax bills.
The accrued funds have a designated purpose: fuelling developmental initiatives across burgeoning sectors. These crucial financial resources are anticipated to stimulate infrastructural growth, consequently enhancing the quality of life within these newly developing zones. The momentum does not halt here. The MCM has also initiated stringent actions against non-compliant property owners. As a clear indicator of the issue's gravity, notifications have been dispatched to 100 defaulters, who collectively owe a substantial Rs 10 crore in outstanding dues.
The proactive spirit of the MCM is reflected in its expansive outreach efforts. Over 30,000 residents have received notices containing an assessment of their property tax liabilities. These notices not only serve as a gentle nudge towards prompt compliance but also provide a platform for residents to rectify any discrepancies found within the billing data. Devender Kumar, the zonal taxation officer, reiterates the dedication to precision. He highlights that residents are encouraged to submit revisions for any irregularities encountered in the billing data, and the team is actively assisting those requesting modifications.
In essence, the MCM's actions, from strategic outsourcing to robust communication, exemplify a progressive and innovative approach to addressing the perennial challenges of tax compliance and revenue generation. The diligent pursuit of resources not only propels financial growth but also aligns with the overarching goal of creating thriving and well-developed urban sectors.
The Government of Haryana's swift development efforts in the Gurugram district has spurred urbanization, crafting new sectors and roads for enhanced living conditions. To oversee development and amenities in the new Gurugram, the Municipal Corporation of Manesar was established in December 2020. Part of Gurugram District, Manesar thrives as an industrial centre for HSIIDC. The Industrial Model Township (IMT) of Manesar houses numerous industries, generating employment.
