In a significant accolade for the state of West Bengal, four of its districts - Murshidabad, Bankura, Nadia, and Howrah - have been recognised with the prestigious Bhoomi Samman Platinum Certificate. The recognition comes for their successful adoption and execution of the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme (DILRMP), a Centre-led initiative.
The award ceremony was held in New Delhi, under the patronage of the Union Ministry of Rural Development. It was President Droupadi Murmu who had the honour of presenting the Bhoomi Samman 2023 to the winning districts at this event.President Murmu extolled the virtues of land record digitisation, indicating its transformative potential for national development. She highlighted the fact that the successful digitalisation of land records, and its subsequent integration with various governmental departments, aids in the accurate and effective execution of welfare initiatives.
In the context of the Digital India Land Information Management System, President Murmu explained that a Unique Land Parcel Identification Number is being issued to facilitate better land usage and the formulation of new welfare schemes. Out of a total of 700 districts in the country, 68 have reached the digitisation target so far.
Speaking on the achievement, Rajarshi Mitra, Murshidabad's district magistrate, extended his appreciation towards the unyielding efforts of the district's land department officials, specifically the district land and land reforms officer (DLLRO), for this remarkable feat.
The recognition of these districts of West Bengal serves as a testament to the transformational power of digitisation and its crucial role in driving national development. It also underscores the significance of continued and concerted efforts in modernising and digitising land records across the country.
