Indian Railways has announced plans to introduce a cost-effective alternative to its acclaimed Vande Bharat train series, tentatively named Vande Sadharan. This new addition aims to bridge the gap for cost-conscious passengers, providing an economical travel solution without compromising on comfort and safety. While its name is still under discussion, Vande Sadharan has been devised with the needs of average Indian citizens in mind, featuring reasonable fare structures.
The Vande Sadharan trains are set to include upgraded second-class unreserved and three-tier sleeper coaches. Passengers will enjoy modern conveniences such as bio-vacuum toilets, passenger information systems, and charging stations. For added security, CCTV cameras will be installed throughout the trains.
In a novel departure from traditional train designs, the Vande Sadharan models will utilize dual locomotives at both ends. This ground breaking design feature promises to deliver quicker acceleration and reduce turnaround time, leading to more efficient and time-conserving journeys for passengers.
Production for the Vande Sadharan trains is currently underway at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, at an estimated expenditure of Rs 65 crore. Each train is anticipated to feature 24 Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, ensuring a comfortable travel experience. The first prototype is expected to be operational by year-end.
The launch of Vande Sadharan represents a step towards inclusivity by Indian Railways. While the Vande Bharat trains are considered premium offerings with steep prices, Vande Sadharan is designed to accommodate a broader demographic of long-distance travellers. This non-AC variant promises an equivalent travel experience to the Vande Bharat Express, but with upgraded facilities and services, all at standard fares.
