According to Housing and Minorities Welfare Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation has set an ambitious target of constructing 7,06,290 houses between 2020-21 and 2022-23. Out of this target, a total of 68,177 houses have already been completed, marking significant progress. The minister further explained that approvals have been received for the construction of 3,68,177 houses, with 1,19,090 houses currently at various stages of construction. However, there are still 1,77,868 houses that are yet to begin construction, and 3,042 houses that have been delayed due to various reasons.
In addition to the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation's efforts, the PM Awas Yojana and Chief Minister Housing Scheme have also set a target of constructing 1,05,267 houses. Among these, 99,218 houses have received approval, and 10,148 houses have been completed. Currently, 60,277 houses are in various stages of construction, while work is yet to commence on 28,793 houses.
Overall, work orders have been issued for 4,67,395 beneficiaries out of the targeted 8,11,557 houses. In category A, a total of 78,325 houses have been completed, and progress has been made on 1,79,367 houses. However, there are still 2,06,661 houses pending completion. It's worth noting that 3,042 houses have been held up due to lack of interest from beneficiaries and various other reasons.
The allocated budget for these housing schemes amounts to Rs 3,961.01 crores, highlighting the government's commitment to addressing housing needs and ensuring affordable housing for its citizens.
While the progress made in constructing houses is commendable, some contrasting viewpoints may argue that the target of constructing 7,06,290 houses within the specified timeframe is overly ambitious. They might contend that it could lead to compromised quality or delays in completion.
