Johnson Controls debuts its largest OpenBlue innovation centre in Bengaluru

In a significant step towards sustainable, smart buildings, Johnson Controls, the world leader in the domain, has launched its largest OpenBlue Innovation Centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This ground-breaking facility will display the potential of net zero building technology by integrating cloud, edge, and AI capabilities within a real-world, fully functioning environment.

According to Vijay Sankaran, the chief technology officer of Johnson Controls, climate change compels the digitalization of buildings in a systematic manner, combining cloud, edge, and AI to connect, automate, and optimize systems. OpenBlue takes the lead in this digitalization, assisting buildings in achieving net zero emissions or even reaching a state of net energy positivity. The development of the OpenBlue network in India, a hub of technological innovation, fills them with excitement. Collaborating with the vibrant tech ecosystem in the region, they aspire to explore new avenues in advancing net zero solutions for the building sector.

The state-of-the-art Bengaluru centre, Johnson Controls' third and most sophisticated in India, underlines the company's growing footprint in the country. It commits to India's G20 priorities of digitalization and sustainability and supports its long-term climate goals. By focusing on cutting-edge AI and sustainable building technology, the centre accelerates India's progress towards net zero emissions.

The centre also introduces the first experiential zone in India, enabling leaders from various sectors to witness and interact with building technology in action. It offers a glimpse into Johnson Controls OpenBlue - a range of cloud, edge, and AI-based connected solutions - in a dynamic, real-life setting. Visitors can immerse themselves in virtual reality experiences of creating and managing smart, energy-efficient, net zero emission buildings, assisting them in setting their own sustainability targets.

With a strong 30-year presence in India, Johnson Controls currently has eight operational centres and over 8,000 personnel, including 3,000 engineers. The Bengaluru centre will initially host over 300 engineers with plans to create additional roles over the next two years, fortifying India's position as a strategic hub for smart building innovation.

Situated at Brookfield Properties/RMZ Centennial - Campus C, Mahadevapura, the Bengaluru centre is the 10th globally in Johnson Controls' OpenBlue Innovation Centres network.
