Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian government has embarked on an ambitious mission to construct 29.3 million houses by December 2023, with a focus on providing housing for the rural poor. A budget of Rs. 54,487 crore has been allocated for rural housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This housing scheme, aimed at the welfare of the country, has gained significant popularity under the Modi government. In addition to housing, the government is also prioritizing the provision of basic amenities such as toilets and electrification in rural homes. The Ayushman Bharat scheme has provided free healthcare to millions of impoverished individuals.
These homes will include toilets as part of the Swachh Bharat program. Furthermore, they will be equipped with free Ujjwala cooking gas connections and universal electrification under the Saubhagya plan. The government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has emphasized the implementation of these projects by conducting awareness sessions at the village, district, and tehsil levels to inform people about their rights and entitlements.
The Prime Minister's objective is to transform rural India by providing essential facilities. The key components of this project are rural housing, drinking water connections in each house, and Ujjwala gas connections. The project is being closely monitored to ensure its completion by December 2023.
As of July 6, 24 million pucca houses have been completed, while the remaining 5.3 million houses are awaiting government approval for completion by December 2023. The Prime Minister set a deadline of January 26, 2024, to complete the entire project. Construction projects are slowed down by the monsoon season but pick up pace during the winter. The government aims to complete all projects on important dates such as Republic Day, Independence Day, or Gandhi Jayanti.
Rural schemes have been given significant importance by the government to improve conditions in rural India and provide basic amenities to the poor. The Modi government emphasizes timely completion of projects and clear communication of the benefits to the people. Successful implementation of these initiatives will reflect positively in subsequent elections as a testament to the government's commitment to uplifting rural India. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, an additional 70 million families were registered within four months, providing free healthcare to the poor, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. This scheme now covers more than 170 million people under universal healthcare.
