Residents rally against Pune Developer's land encroachment in Kharadi

A Pune developer in Kharadi has encroached upon land owned by the Pune Municipal Corporation that was designated for exhibition and recreation purposes. Despite residents' complaints and reports of the illegal activities, no action has been taken. The four-acre land on Fountain Road, intended for recreational and exhibition spaces, has been taken over by the private builder who has constructed concrete walls and locked the iron gates, restricting public access.

Members of the local association noticed earth-moving equipment and ongoing construction on the municipality land, leading them to write letters of complaint to the authorities. However, their concerns were ignored, prompting the residents to organize large processions in order to put an end to the illegal activities.

The residents emphasize the importance of open spaces and recreational areas, especially in today's times, and recognize the need to preserve them. They planned to stage an agitation on Saturday at 8 a.m. to halt any further construction on the municipality land. The open space could serve as a community gathering area, a place for recreation, and a means for fostering connections among the residents.

The plot in question spans 15,779 square meters and is identified by survey numbers 53 and 54. The Pune Municipal Corporation officials failed to take control of the land that was being misused. As a result, the Kharadi Housing Society Welfare Association, aware of the land's intended purpose as an exhibition ground for decades, decided to take action against the situation. Their objective was to prevent the private builder from conducting any more construction activities on the government land and ensure that the residents could enjoy the open space as originally intended.

The residents of Kharadi raised concerns over the builder's misuse of the land designated for community amenities for their own private construction purposes. Their actions were aimed solely at safeguarding the open space on Fountain Road, which was unlawfully seized by the private builder, ensuring that it remains available for the benefit of the residents.
