Indore Municipal Corporation launches plan to set up solar panels in 85 localities

In a major initiative driven by renewable energy, Indore's municipal body has announced a scheme to introduce solar panels across 85 identified neighbourhoods, pushing the city closer to its goal of earning the 'Solar City' title. The decision came out of a meeting presided over by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Commissioner Harshika Singh.

The plan focuses on encouraging homeowners across these localities to install solar panels, with the aim of transforming the energy landscape of the city to a sustainable and eco-friendly one. By ensuring 100% solar panel installation at residential structures in each of the designated colonies, the civic body hopes to realize its green vision.

In order to promote the transition towards green energy, various activities and awareness programs are set to be launched, intended to popularize the advantages of solar energy among residents. Mayor Bhargava also tasked senior officials with identifying idle lands under IMC's purview for potential development, a move intended to bolster the civic body's revenue.

As part of the wider initiative, Mayor Bhargava outlined plans for the restoration of community halls and crematoriums, as well as the exploration of IMC-owned markets for potential redevelopment into high-rise commercial buildings. Bhargava specifically mentioned the potential for the development of a library in the Bhawarkuan area, citing its significant student population and the presence of several educational institutions as key factors in the decision.

With thousands of students living and studying in the Bhawarkuan region, the proposed library aims to support their academic endeavours, providing an additional resource to aid in their studies. In tandem with the push towards solar power, these initiatives illustrate a commitment to both sustainable living and community development, laying the groundwork for a future-focused Indore.

This forward-thinking initiative by Indore's municipal body is a significant step towards sustainable urban living. The 85-colony solar panel project not only moves Indore closer to the 'Solar City' label but also reaffirms its commitment to green energy and community development. As cities around the world strive to mitigate their environmental impact, Indore's proactive approach sets a powerful precedent for other municipalities to follow.
