Builders in Nashik advised to be cautious when excavating during rains

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued a cautionary notice to builders in the city, urging them to exercise utmost care and adhere to safety guidelines while conducting excavation work during the monsoon season. This comes after a road in the Govind Nagar area experienced a partial cave-in last year due to digging activities for a construction project. While the civic body promptly resolved the issue and restored the road's functionality, it has taken the incident seriously and aims to prevent a recurrence.

According to a civic official, the road damage was caused by extensive digging carried out near the road by the concerned builder. Heavy rainfall in the preceding days had already loosened the soil in the area, exacerbating the situation. The NMC repaired the road following the incident.

To prevent similar occurrences, the civic administration has written to real estate organizations in Nashik, including the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) and the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), urging them to inform their members about the need for extra precautions during excavation activities in construction sites during the monsoon.

Krunal Patil, President of CREDAI Nashik, confirmed receiving the letter from the NMC and stated that they have instructed all their members to prioritize precautions and adhere to safety guidelines. Members were advised to consult their contractors, architects, and consultants before commencing any excavation work. Similarly,

Jayesh Thakkar, an office-bearer of NAREDCO, affirmed that they have already communicated the NMC's instructions to their members. They emphasized the importance of avoiding significant excavation during rainy seasons and, if necessary, conducting it with extreme care to prevent soil erosion and road damage. Thakkar also highlighted the instruction for members to consult architects and consultants before undertaking any excavation.

Notably, the NMC approved over 5,000 building plan proposals last year, with construction for approximately 50% of the projects already underway. The remaining projects are set to commence in the coming months. It is crucial for builders to adhere to cautionary instructions during monsoon excavation work to ensure public safety and prevent any disruption to roads or infrastructure.

As the construction industry in Nashik continues to grow, it is imperative for builders to prioritize safety and follow guidelines established by the NMC. By exercising caution and consulting professionals, they can mitigate risks associated with excavation during the monsoon and contribute to the city's overall development.
