Panchkula MC targets commercial properties for outstanding property tax dues

According to the MC commissioner, Sachin Gupta, a sum of Rs 38.66 crore is due to the municipality from various commercial establishments such as Hotel Golden Tulip, Ramgarh Fort, Holiday Inn, Vintegrate Technology Private Limited Sector 22, and St. Teresa Public School Sector 25, due to non-payment of property tax. The total number of such commercial private properties that owe the municipality is 119.

He instructed the authorities to take strict action against those who do not pay their property taxes. There are 46 government-owned properties, including UHBVN, HSVP, Tau Devi Lal Stadium, and Gymkhana Club Sector 3, that owe a total of Rs 32.19 crore in unpaid taxes.

The MC needs to gather a sum of Rs 70.85 crore in property tax from a group of 165 properties that are liable for Rs 10 lakh or more in taxes. Instructions have been given to relevant officials to close properties that fail to settle property tax arrears within a period of 15 days. The commissioner of the Municipal Corporation suggested that individuals with property tax balances exceeding Rs 10 lakh should be notified.

Gupta organized a gathering at his workplace last week to discuss common facility centre matters, with the presence of joint commissioner Dr. Richa Rathi, deputy corporation commissioner Apoorva Chaudhary, zonal taxation officer Akash Kapoor, and several other staff members.

Akash Kapoor, the officer in charge of area taxation, informed the commissioner that individuals who had been notified about their property tax debts were still failing to pay their dues. The commissioner directed the authorities to strictly enforce penalties on those who fail to pay their property tax dues. He suggested that those who have failed to pay taxes should be held accountable and that their names should be published on mcpanchkula.com.

The concerned authorities were directed to prioritize their attention towards individuals who have defaulted on their property taxes and owe an amount exceeding Rs 10 lakh. He directed his deputy commissioner, Apoorva Chaudhary, and taxation officer, Akash Kapoor, to issue notices to all those who have defaulted on their property tax payments within a week and give them a 15-day deadline to clear their dues. He suggested that the belongings of individuals who have failed to pay their taxes within 15 days be sealed.

It should be noted that MC sent notifications to both government and private establishments totalling 46 and 30, respectively, in March. However, as of now, no payments have been made, and they have yet to comply.

The Municipal Corporation of Panchkula has an official website named Mcpanchkula.org. The platform provides its users with the convenience of making payments through an internet-based system. Residents can conveniently settle their property tax, house tax, professional tax, water bill, and similar dues by accessing Mcpanchkula.org.
