Over 18 lakh houses sanctioned under PMAY-Gramin in Assam

More than 1.8 million houses have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) in Assam, with over 1.1 million houses already completed, according to Ranjeet Kumar Dass, the state's Panchayat and Rural Development Minister. Speaking at a press conference, Dass revealed that there are more than 1.9 million beneficiaries covered under the PMAY-G in Assam.

Dass emphasized that since the program's inception, Assam has sanctioned a total of 1,830,400 PMAY-G houses, with 1,163,417 houses already completed, including 759,163 houses completed in the last two years alone. He further stated that the remaining houses are targeted to be completed by August 15 of this year.

The implementation of PMAY-G in Assam has incurred an expenditure of Rs 12,504.79 crore since the fiscal year 2022-23, according to Dass. He also mentioned that the state government has allocated land to 40,096 landless PMAY-G beneficiaries, taking the initiative to provide land for the construction of clusters of PMAY-G houses. Efforts are being made to mobilize funds from various programs and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to provide additional facilities within these clusters.

Dass provided an update on the progress made in constructing the clusters. Seven clusters, covering 99 beneficiaries, have been completed thus far, while work is ongoing in 19 clusters, which will accommodate 838 beneficiaries across 10 districts. In tea garden areas, the government has formulated a standard operating procedure for PMAY-G housing, benefiting 81,638 beneficiaries.

The state government is planning a mass "griha pravesh" ceremony for over 250,000 completed houses, highlighting the achievements and celebrating the successful implementation of the PMAY-G. To meet the local demand for skilled manpower in constructing PMAY-G houses, more than 3,400 masons have been trained in the state.

In addition, Dass announced that a regional conference for nine eastern region states will be held in Assam on June 2-3. The conference aims to monitor the implementation process of the PMAY-G scheme and facilitate the sharing of best practices among the participating states.

The progress made in Assam under the PMAY-G is a testament to the state's commitment to providing affordable housing for its residents. With a significant number of houses already sanctioned and completed, and efforts underway to provide land and additional facilities, Assam is making substantial strides towards achieving the goal of "Housing for All" and improving the lives of its citizens.
