Ecovillage residents persist in protests against Supertech despite police notices

For more than a month, residents of Ecovillage 1 have maintained a peaceful sit-in at their community entrance, demonstrating against the developer, Supertech, for its alleged failure to provide basic amenities. Unmoved by legal notices and penalties, the protestors assert they will continue their demonstration.

Eight demonstrators from Ecovillage were served notices under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to forestall any disturbances to public peace. In addition to the notices, the residents are facing a hefty fine of INR 1 lakh each. This action came after over a month of protest, during which residents of Ajnara Homes and its maintenance team received similar notices for analogous demonstrations.

Since April 23rd, the Ecovillage residents have resolutely staged their protest at Gate 1, demanding improved electrical infrastructure, elevator safety inspections, efficient water drainage, and the installation of a sewage treatment plant.

Responding to the situation, Nitish Arora, the Supertech Group director overseeing the Ecovillage complex, revealed that they had filed a police complaint as a precautionary measure in the early stages of the protest. He commented, "We have conducted two meetings with the residents, but they seem unwilling to cease their protest."

The sub-district magistrate has issued the notices, delivered by the police, in an attempt to prevent any potential conflict between the builder and the protesting residents.

In conclusion, the Ecovillage residents' persistence in their protest signals a deep-seated frustration with the alleged failures of the Supertech builder. As the authorities intervene to maintain public peace, it remains to be seen how this conflict will resolve and whether the residents' demands will be met. With the dialogue continuing between the builder and the residents, the situation requires swift and judicious actions to protect both parties' interests.
