GVMC Commissioner Varma reviews ongoing construction of TIDCO housing units

Last week, CM Saikanth Varma, the Commissioner of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) visited a TIDCO housing colony located at Satyanarayanapuram near Anakapalli. The purpose of his visit was to assess the progress of ongoing construction works in the area. It was reported that approximately 2,750 housing units have been built in this region and are nearing completion, with infrastructure works already finished.

Apart from the construction of roads, other essential infrastructure works such as drainage systems, water supply, and electricity have already been successfully completed. However, the GVMC officials revealed that there is still a need to arrange bank loans for 116 beneficiaries. Furthermore, registrations for 123 beneficiaries have yet to be completed.

In light of these pending tasks, Commissioner Varma urged the officials to expedite the remaining works as soon as possible. Throughout his visit, Papu Naidu, the GVMC Urban Community Development Project Director, and several other officials accompanied the commissioner.

In the wider context of Visakhapatnam district, an impressive number of TIDCO housing units are currently under construction. These units are being developed across various locations and are expected to offer a total of 24,000 housing units. The sizes of these units vary, with some measuring 300 square feet, some 365 square feet, and others 430 square feet. Notably, the beneficiaries of the 300 square feet housing units will be allocated their homes for a mere one rupee, symbolizing an affordable housing initiative.

Within the district, a significant portion of the construction is taking place in the suburbs, with 22,936 houses being built. Additionally, 1,256 houses are being developed in different slums within the city. The TIDCO housing project encompasses a diverse range of unit sizes to cater to different needs, including 5,776 units of 300 square feet, 5,200 units spanning 365 square feet, and 13,216 units occupying 430 square feet of space each.

The construction and progress of these housing units signify the commitment of the GVMC to provide affordable and adequate housing to the residents of Visakhapatnam. By addressing the housing needs of various income groups and locations, the municipal corporation aims to create a more inclusive and thriving community. The efforts put forth by the officials, under the supervision of Commissioner Varma, reflect their dedication to enhancing the living standards and quality of life for the citizens of Visakhapatnam district.
