Rajasthan Government approves GIS-based 3D models for urban planning enhancement

The Rajasthan government has granted approval for the creation of 3D models of four cities, namely Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, and Ajmer, utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This move, announced officially, aims to enhance urban planning and administration by developing GIS-based 3D models of these cities.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has allocated a budget of Rs 106.46 crore for the implementation of the GIS-based 3D city and Rajdhara Satellite Imagery Repository projects in these urban centres. The utilization of these models will aid in suggesting land use in city master plans, constructing new infrastructure such as roads, flyovers, and colonies, as well as facilitating large-scale infrastructure development, transport planning, and town planning.

The created 3D models will enable virtual tours of the cities through the use of Virtual Reality technology, as per the statement. Additionally, a satellite imagery repository, known as the Rajdhara platform, will be established to house satellite images of Rajasthan from various eras. This repository will facilitate the analysis of land usage, land cover, changes in reservoirs/water sources, forest areas, crop yields, and the expansion and growth of cities. It will cater to the needs of different departments for effective planning and decision-making.

Furthermore, the state government has resolved to develop Lavkush Gardens in every district of Rajasthan, with a budget allocation of Rs 66 crore. These gardens will serve to promote ecotourism and raise awareness about environmental protection. They will feature models of woods and wildlife, providing an educational platform for children to learn about the importance of safeguarding the environment and wildlife. The gardens will also include exhibition spaces and eco-trail routes to engage visitors and instil a sense of environmental responsibility throughout the state.
