MCG directs private developers of 8 colonies to pay for deficient infrastructure

Private developers of eight colonies taken over by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) last year have been instructed to deposit Rs 75.8 crore for deficient infrastructure costs to continue development. This directive was issued by the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP). The MCG has taken over the colonies in June last year. In response, the developers have demanded a re-evaluation of the deficient infrastructure cost, citing that the estimates were inflated.

MCG commissioner PC Meena addressed this issue during a meeting held last week, directing the developers to pay at least 50% of the amount within 20 days. The commissioner clarified that re-evaluation will only be done after the developers deposit a portion of the cost. She urged the builders to deposit the money as the MCG has already begun development work in the colonies and therefore in need of funds.

The DTCP had previously issued orders on May 9, 2020, stating that the cost to complete deficient infrastructure in nine colonies was Rs 92.04 crore. However, Mayfield Gardens, for which the cost to complete deficient infrastructure was estimated to be Rs 16.21 crore, has not yet been transferred to MCG. Residents of Mayfield Gardens have been suffering due to the indecision and delay in the matter by MCG.

Officials confirmed that MCG commissioner has sanctioned the creation of a committee to re-evaluate the estimates of deficient infrastructure. The committee will comprise of the chief town planner, district town planner, chief engineer, STP of the town planning department, an RWA representative, and a representative of the developer. The committee has been directed to make a fresh assessment and submit the report to the commissioner within a fixed period.

According to the DTCP, the estimated cost to complete deficient infrastructure in Mayfield Garden is the highest at Rs 16.21 crore, followed by Malibu Towne (Rs 14.7 crore), Greenwood City (Rs 14.31 crore), Ardee City (Rs 10.93 crore), Sushant Lok 3 (Rs 10.38 crore), Sushant Lok 2 (Rs 8.50 crore), Vipul World (Rs 8.92 crore), Rosewood City (Rs 4.49 crore), and Uppal Southend (Rs 3.6 crore).

It is important to note that the development work being done by MCG in these colonies will greatly benefit the residents, and it is imperative that the developers deposit the deficient infrastructure cost so that the work can continue without any further delays. The formation of a committee to re-evaluate the estimates of deficient infrastructure in Mayfield Gardens is a positive step in ensuring that the estimates are accurate and that the work can be completed efficiently.
