Mira Road builder arrested for faking ED summons to extort money from competitors

A builder from Mira Road, Raju Shah, was arrested for allegedly faking Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons to extort around Rs 26.5 crore from his competitors. According to the police, Shah had posted on his social media that ED had issued summons against him in September 2022. The complainant, Anand Ramprasad Agarwal, came to know about the fake summons after checking with the ED. He had filed a complaint in February 2023 against three builders - Gautam Agarwal, Mitesh Shah, and Raju Shah.

As per Agarwal's statement to the police, he is the owner of AA Corp Construction Company and his business partners are Harish Agarwal and Jordan Pereira. Gautam Agarwal, owner of Construction India and Real Infra Advisors, was his acquaintance, and they had been working together since 2007. Gautam had been acting strangely with his partners since 2014 and claimed that he was cheated. In February 2022, Gautam filed complaints against his partners with the ED and the National Investigation Agency.

Sandip Kadam, senior police inspector of Kashimira Police Station, said that in January 2021, Gautam had submitted an application at Bhayander Police Station, stating that Agarwal and his partners had cheated him of Rs 26.5 crore, but there was no evidence, and no FIR was registered. Only after Shah posted the fake summons on his social media, Mitesh Shah told Agarwal to settle the matter and offered to mediate for consideration of Rs 25 lakh. Agarwal told the police that Gautam, Raju, and Mitesh had got the fake ED summons against him and tried to threaten him to defame his partners.

The incident is another case of cheating in the real estate sector, where builders are taking advantage of legal loopholes and extorting money from competitors. The ED summons is a powerful tool that can harm the reputation and business of any individual or company, and the misuse of such a tool can have serious consequences. It is crucial to have strict regulations and transparent processes to prevent such incidents from happening.
