Kendrapada cracks down on environmental violations, 25 illicit brick kilns dismantled

In a decisive move to enforce environmental protection and pollution prevention measures, approximately 25 unauthorized brick kilns were razed in Kendrapada, Odisha, according to Niranjan Behera, Kendrapada's sub-collector.

Government officials initiated a comprehensive demolition drive targeting illegal brick kilns within several blocks of Kendrapada district, including Derabishi, Rajkanika, Aul, Marsaghai, and Mahakalapada. The operation took place on last week tackling units found to be blatantly flouting environmental regulations.

Sub-collector Behera reiterated the scale of the operation, highlighting that the civic body demolished around 25 illegal brick kilns with bulldozers as the kiln owners violated the environment protection and pollution prevention measures. He added that the district administration had not granted any permits to many kilns, particularly those built in riverside villages.

Behera underscored the gravity of the situation, stating that during their investigation, they discovered that the brick kiln owners have not implemented adequate pollution-control measures. He went on to emphasize that no brick kiln would be allowed to continue operations without obtaining environmental clearance from the State Pollution Control Board.

The sub-collector further pointed out the severe health implications of the kilns, noting that the black smoke emitted from these units was causing respiratory issues among the local populace.

In conclusion the decisive action in Kendrapada underlines the local government's commitment to upholding environmental regulations and protecting public health. As the crackdown on illegal brick kilns continues, it sends a clear message to operators about the importance of abiding by pollution prevention measures, ensuring the preservation of the environment, and prioritizing the well-being of local residents.
