In the bustling city of Dombivli, part of the Kalyan-Dombivli region in the state of Maharashtra, an alarming situation has emerged. A large eight-story building has been erected illegally on a plot specifically designated for a public garden. The structure, standing on reservation plot number 93, is nearing completion, with only exterior work pending. This alarming situation came to light through local architect and committed civic activist, Sandeep Patil.
Patil, recognized for his instrumental role in exposing the MahaRera scam that resulted in the arrest of 66 builders for illegal constructions in the Kalyan-Dombivli region, has not shied away from challenging this blatant breach of civic regulations. The disputed construction occupies a substantial 10,500 square meter area, equivalent to over two acres, which was intended to provide a green space for the local community.
In response to this grievous misuse of public land, Patil lodged an official complaint with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). His complaint to KDMC Commissioner Dr. Bhausabeb Dangade urged immediate action against the illegal structure. Patil's allegations suggest local officials, along with influential figures including certain politicians, were aware of the illegitimate construction but chose not to intervene.
The municipal body appears to be heeding Patil's call for action. KDMC sources have confirmed that they have reached out to Thane police for assistance in executing the anticipated demolition of the offending structure.
