Drone survey to scan illegal construction and infrastructure flaws in Gurugram, Haryana

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has initiated a drone survey in sectors 1 to 80 of Gurgaon to gather information about the infrastructure deficiencies, unauthorised constructions, and the status of amenities for future redevelopment plans. The mapping is being done through a government agency called DRIISHYA. The drone survey will also keep a check on any violation of norms by recording stilt plus four floor buildings in these sectors. The data collected through this technique will be a much-refined version of existing data, which will be helpful in identifying actual on-ground issues that need immediate attention.

According to the government authorities, sectors 1 to 115 have been developed under Gurgaon Manesar Master Plan, and there are various issues in these sectors that need to be addressed. Nine sectors have already been covered under the project, and the survey is likely to be completed within a month. The drone survey will help the department in identifying issues related to infrastructure upgrade and curbs on unauthorised construction in licensed colonies.

Encroachment is one of the biggest hurdles in the overall development of the city. Sector dividing roads and green belts have been encroached upon by illegal nurseries, unauthorised structures, among others. The survey will ascertain the exact status of roads, sewerage, drainage, parks, and other amenities. As per rough estimates, there are around 20,000 floors constructed on 5,000 plots in residential licensed colonies. With the permission to construct stilt plus four floors, the infrastructure in sectors has been overburdened.

The data collected through this survey will be extremely helpful in case there is a redevelopment plan prepared in the future. The department will also be able to keep a watch on land earmarked for the 24-meter road, which has not been constructed till date. At a few places, there is litigation, while others have been encroached upon.

The drone survey is an essential tool for the authorities to identify infrastructure deficiencies and encroachments in Gurgaon. The mapping of these sectors will also help in identifying unauthorised construction, which has become a major problem in the licensed colonies. The drone survey will also help in ascertaining the exact status of the amenities in the sectors, which will be helpful in future redevelopment plans.
