LMC officials warn residents about scamsters posing as BSUP scheme officials

The officials of Ludhiana municipal corporation have issued a warning to the public about fraudulent activities related to the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme, following numerous complaints of fake allotment of flats. The officials clarified that no staff members of the municipal corporation visit homes to offer flats to residents, as these flats were constructed specifically for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers. They urged residents to be cautious and not to engage with any illegal deals, and to report any such activities to the authorities.

MC joint commissioner Kulpreet Singh spoke to the press telling them that the civic body has received a few complaints about fraudsters who have given fake MC receipts and allotment letters to residents in exchange for money. The fraudsters have reportedly taken up to Rs 30,000 from each victim by promising to allocate a BSUP flat or a plot surrounding the flats.

Kulpreet added that BSUP flats were built in different areas of the city such as Giaspura and Mundiyan Kalan for the rehabilitation of slum dwellers. He also mentioned that the matter has been brought to the attention of MC commissioner Aggarwal, and officials from the department have been informed about this fraudulent activity.

The joint commissioner requested the residents to stay vigilant and informed them that they can report any illegal activity in their area by contacting Harjot Singh, an MC official, at 7696360002. A few months ago, the MC received complaints about fraudsters issuing fake challans to shopkeepers.

BSUP stands for Basic Services for Urban Poor, which is a scheme launched by the Government of India to provide basic civic amenities and services to the urban poor in selected cities across the country, including Ludhiana. Under the BSUP scheme, the government aims to improve the living conditions of the urban poor by providing them with access to basic services such as water supply, sanitation, roads, and other urban infrastructure facilities. The scheme also aims to create affordable housing for the poor and provide them with access to social and economic amenities such as schools, healthcare facilities, and markets.
