Noida Authority employs an agency to monitor Sports City's situation

The Noida Authority has hired an agency to keep a check on the Sports City project, which is located in various sectors, and to ensure that the facilities are in place. The agency will assist in identifying gaps and remedies for completing the sports facilities. As per the original plan, 70% of the land was to be used for sports facilities, and the remaining area was to be used for residential and commercial purposes. However, the developers sold residential properties without completing the sports facilities.

The Sports City project was envisaged as an integrated mini-township with modern and world-class sports facilities across sectors 78, 79, 101, 150, and 152, with nearly 300 hectares allotted to the project. Two land parcels were allocated to Three C, one in Sectors 78, 79, and 101, and another in Sector 150, and one each was allocated to Logix Infra Developer and ATS Homes in Sector 150 and Sector 152, respectively. The four developers subdivided the land into 74 plots and allotted them to subsidiary companies, and the layout of 45 projects was approved.

Currently, the developers owe over Rs 8,200 crore in land dues to the Noida Authority and have failed to complete the various sports projects. Nearly 15,000 homebuyers have received possession of their flats in the project, but they are still awaiting the registry of their units due to the pending dues and incomplete sports projects. The 11 proposed sports facilities include a golf course, a multipurpose playing field, a tennis centre, a swimming pool, an indoor multipurpose stadium, and a cricket academy, among others.

The approval for the construction of an international cricket stadium in Sector 150 of the Sports City project was given by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) in 2021. This proposed stadium is expected to have world-class infrastructure, including a seating capacity of around 50,000 and floodlights for day and night matches. It is expected to provide a boost to the development of sports facilities in the region.

In conclusion, the Noida Authority has hired an agency to keep track of the ongoing work and to ensure that the sports facilities are completed. The developers have failed to complete the sports projects, and homebuyers are still awaiting the registry of their units due to pending dues. The agency will check the guidelines and framework under which the project was envisaged, identify gaps, and recommend remedies to complete the sports facilities. The Sports City project has the potential to be a world-class sports facility, and the completion of the sports projects will attract sports enthusiasts from across the country.
