Located in Seine-et-Marne, the Chateau d'Armainvilliers is a symbol of luxury and grandeur. Originally built in the 12th century, it was acquired and developed by the Rothschild banking dynasty in the 19th century. Later, in the 1980s, King Hassan II of Morocco undertook extensive renovations, turning it into a magnificent palace.
With 100 rooms spread across three floors, including five elegant salons and 17 themed bedroom suites, the chateau exudes sophistication. The Moroccan royalty added luxurious amenities such as a hammam spa, a beauty salon, and a modern medical facility. They also expanded the estate with a basement level featuring tunnels, storage facilities, and accommodations for staff.
Furthermore, the estate includes a spacious stable capable of housing up to 50 horses, adding to its prestige. In 2008, the chateau changed hands, purchased by a buyer from the Middle East for an astounding GBP 170 million. However, the recent listing of the property at EUR 425 million has sparked debate among real estate experts and enthusiasts regarding its valuation.
While the chateau's inherent splendor and expansive 1,000-hectare land justify the exorbitant price, skepticism surrounds its marketability at such a staggering price point. Moreover, there are lingering concerns about whether the renovations conducted in the 1980s can adapt to contemporary tastes and preferences. Yet, amidst these deliberations, one cannot overlook the serene charm of the estate's natural surroundings, which encompass a tranquil private lake and majestic sequoia trees, offering a haven of peace amid the bustling pace of contemporary living.
