DDA to offer 23,000 new flats in its upcoming housing scheme

According to senior officials, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to launch its 2023 housing scheme in May,
which will feature approximately 23,000 new economically weaker section (EWS) and lower income group (LIG)
flats. These flats will primarily be in the Narela Subcity. The officials expect the scheme to be launched after the
agenda is approved in the April meeting. The price of these flats will be determined before applications are invited,
and the allotment process will be carried out through a computerized draw of lots.
To ensure maximum feedback, DDA plans to market and promote the flats in every possible manner, and the authority
will offer the benefit of the amended housing regulation of 1968 to potential buyers. The regulation stipulates that any
person in Delhi owning a flat or plot measuring less than 67 square meters is eligible to apply for the allotment of new
flats. Previously, the regulation did not allow an individual or their family members to apply for a DDA flat if they
owned another flat or plot, regardless of its size.
To avoid confusion, DDA plans to put a hold on the sale of around 16,000 flats from previous schemes for one or two
months during the launch of the new scheme. The flats from previous schemes were sold on a first-come-first-serve
basis, and even individuals who already owned a DDA flat could apply for another.
With the addition of the new flats, DDA will have approximately 40,000 unsold flats. The 16,000 unsold flats from
previous schemes were considered too costly and lacked metro connectivity. In an effort to improve their saleability,
DDA implemented several measures, including improving transport infrastructure, constructing urban extension road-
II, permitting amalgamation of flats, allotment on a first-come-first-serve basis, and offering some concessions.
Furthermore, DDA has facilitated the construction of the Phase-IV metro line on the Rithala-Bawana-Narela corridor,
allotted land for police stations, and opened shops to attract buyers. By improving roads, water supply lines, and
sewage treatment systems, DDA is working towards providing the necessary infrastructure to support the new and
unsold flats.
Overall, the DDA's 2023 housing scheme aims to provide affordable housing options for EWS and LIG families in
Delhi while also providing the necessary infrastructure to support their daily lives.
