Haworth expands its presence with second manufacturing plant in India

Haworth, a leading provider of premium global workspace solutions, has announced the groundbreaking of its second manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur, India. With an investment of USD 8 - 10 million, the new facility will double the existing space to 113,000 sq ft and strengthen Haworth's presence in the Indian market and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
Franco Bianchi, President & CEO of Haworth Inc., emphasized the company's commitment to India and highlighted the expansion as a strategic move to meet the growing demand for premium workspace solutions. The new plant will produce a range of key products including Zody, Fern, Aloha, HAT, Intuity, Riverbend, IQ commercial, Pebble, Tibas, Shift, Poppy, and the soon-to-be-launched Cabana range.
In addition to catering to the domestic market, the factory will export furniture and components to North America and Europe, tapping into the significant demand for premium furniture from multinational corporations and SMEs. Haworth's focus on premium seating and exploration of emerging opportunities in systems and pods have strengthened its position as a preferred workspace solutions provider, garnering orders from multinational clients.
Henning Figge, President of Haworth International, highlighted the company's focus on providing ergonomic furniture for various sectors including Banking, IT, Manufacturing, Managed Spaces, Global Capability Centers, Educational, and Financial Services. Since establishing its first manufacturing plant in Chennai in 2014, Haworth has expanded its product range in India, reducing dependency on imports and improving delivery timelines.
The second plant not only addresses local requirements but also positions itself for potential exports, with plans to expand the manufacturing footprint and invest in logistics. Haworth, with a presence in over 150 countries and employing over 8,000 professionals worldwide, has five showrooms and offices in India, employing over 300 employees. Additionally, the company has established a global Shared Services Centre in Chennai as part of its best shoring initiative.
Overall, the expansion of Haworth's manufacturing capabilities in Sriperumbudur signifies its dedication to serving the Indian market, leveraging growth opportunities, and meeting the evolving needs of clients globally.
