Maharashtra cabinet approves land acquisition for Maharashtra Bhavan in Ayodhya

The Maharashtra state cabinet has given the green light for the acquisition of land in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, to establish Maharashtra Bhavan. Spanning 9,420.55 sq meters, the plot comes with a price tag of INR 67 crore. Situated in Sector 8D under the Land Development Housing and Market Scheme in Shahnevajpur Manjha, the acquisition is facilitated through the Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Council. An official emphasized that this move aims to enhance convenience and comfort for devotees from Maharashtra visiting to pay homage to Lord Ram, by offering affordable accommodation.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Cabinet has allocated INR 67.14 crore for acquiring land to construct a state guesthouse in Ayodhya. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, overseeing the Planning and Finance Departments, had earlier announced plans for constructing Maharashtra State Guesthouses in Ayodhya and Srinagar in the interim budget for 2024-25.
The identified plot is situated in the Greenfield Township of Shahnevajpur Manjha in Ayodhya. Designed to benefit devotees and tourists from Maharashtra visiting Ayodhya to seek blessings at the Ram Temple, the proposed guesthouse's location has been deemed suitable for construction. Priced at INR 67.14 crore (INR 60,261.60 per sq mt), the government is set to finance the land acquisition from the budgetary provisions. An initial payment of INR 6 crore is to be made as token money for land demarcation.
The proposed site is strategically situated, approximately 7.5 km from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and around 15 km from the Sarayu River. Notably, the plot enjoys close proximity to NH 27 Gorakhpur Lucknow, Ayodhya railway station (4.5 km away), and the Maharshi Valmiki International Airport (11.5 km away), enhancing accessibility and connectivity for visitors.
The decision assumes significance amidst the MahaYuti government's efforts to capitalize on the inauguration of the Ram Temple by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January. It underscores a key strategy to leverage the temple's symbolic significance and foster closer ties between Maharashtra and Ayodhya.
