Government employees in Andhra Pradesh can now buy plots in smart townships

The Government of the Andhra Pradesh has taken a significant decision that would allow government employees to purchase house sites in urban development authorities anywhere across the state. This decision has been made following several rounds of discussions with employees in the last two months. The state government has removed the "local" clause that earlier limited employees to purchase house sites only in their district.

The government's decision to remove the "local" clause would benefit the employees who would now have the option to apply for plots in MIG layouts or Jagananna "smart townships" in any city of their choice, irrespective of their working district. The government employees would also be entitled to a 20% rebate on the price fixed by the urban development authorities.

All urban development authorities (UDAs) have been directed to set aside 10% of the plots for government employees. The government employees' association representatives had requested the government to allow employees to purchase plots at their desired destination as they might prefer to settle in those places in view of their personal and family requirements. They also contended that the removal of the local clause would help more employees invest in smart townships in cities of their choice.

The decision has been welcomed by employees who are excited to have the option to purchase house sites in any city of their choice. The removal of the "local" clause has come as a relief for many employees who found it challenging to purchase house sites in their district due to several reasons like unaffordable prices, lack of availability, and other personal and family requirements.

The move is expected to encourage more government employees to invest in Jagananna "smart townships" and contribute to the state's development. The government's decision to provide a 20% rebate on the fixed price is also expected to make it more affordable for employees to purchase house sites.
