The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) secured an allocation of INR 10,519 crore in the state's interim budget for land acquisition related to the Pune outer ring road project. This allocation was confirmed by MSRDC officials, who had advocated for this funding. The officials express optimism regarding the completion of land acquisition by June.
Developed by MSRDC, the Pune outer ring road project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city. This significant budgetary allocation underscores the government's commitment to infrastructure development in the region. Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra's deputy chief minister and finance minister, presented this allocation during the budget announcement.
A meeting involving MSRDC officials, the Pune divisional commissioner, and land acquisition officials outlined a firm deadline of June for completing land acquisition. This timeline shows the project's urgency and the concerted efforts of stakeholders involved. The project's land acquisition process is divided into two phases: western and eastern. Notably, nearly 90% of the land required for the western phase has already been acquired, showcasing significant progress.
However, land acquisition for the eastern phase is yet to commence, indicating the need for continued momentum in project execution. Alongside the Pune outer ring road, the interim budget also allocates funds amounting to INR 22,225 crore for land acquisition pertaining to the Virar-Alibaug multimodal corridor, another ambitious infrastructure project managed by MSRDC.
The proposed Pune outer ring road spans an impressive length of 136.80 kilometers. This extensive road network is strategically designed to divert through-traffic away from congested urban areas, thereby enhancing overall traffic flow and easing the burden on Pune's existing road infrastructure. The project's scope and objectives align with the broader goal of sustainable urban development and improved transportation efficiency.
In conclusion, the allocation of INR 10,519 crore towards land acquisition for the Pune outer ring road underscores the government's commitment to infrastructure development in Maharashtra. The project's progress, as evidenced by the significant land acquisition achievements in the western phase, reflects the concerted efforts of MSRDC and other stakeholders. With a firm deadline set for completing land acquisition by June and additional allocations for related projects, Maharashtra is poised for substantial infrastructure growth, ultimately benefiting the region's residents and economy.
