Zomato founder buys five-acre land in Delhi for INR 79 crore

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal has purchased two land parcels of around 5 acres in Mehrauli Tehsil in New Delhi for a total of INR 79 crore. The two land parcels were purchased from different sets of owners.

According to documents accessed through CRE Matrix, a real estate data analytics firm, Goyal bought the first 2.5 acre for INR 29 crore in March 2023 while the second 2.5-acre land was bought for INR 50 crore in September 2023. He paid a total stamp duty of INR 5.24 crore for both the transactions.

The two plots are located in the village Dera Mandi of Chhatarpur area. Many affluent Delhites have built farmhouses in these villages. According to property experts, post Covid, there has been a spurt in demand for farmhouses and wealthy Indians have invested in this asset class.

Earlier, JC Chaudhary, the founder of Aakash Educational Services Ltd had bought a 5-acre farmhouse in South Delhi for INR 96 crore. India’s premium sanitary ware company Jaquar had purchased three farmhouses in Delhi’s Westend Greens for around INR 235 crore. In another deal, Countrywide Promoters, a subsidiary of developer BPTP Group, bought a 5.24-acre plot in Gurugram near the Dwarka Expressway for INR 87.27 crore.

Delhi is the only Indian city to have designated certain areas for farmhouses in its master plan. These areas are in clusters around Mehrauli, Panipat, Bijwasan, Rajokri and Chattarpur. There are about 4,000 farmhouses in 18 villages in and around New Delhi, spread over half an acre to 2.5 acres each.

Industry experts said about 300 farmhouses ranging from INR 10 crore to INR 150 crore are on sale in areas such as Westend Greens, Sultanpur, Pushpanjali, Vasant Kunj, DLF Chhattarpur, Radhey Mohan Drive and Ansal Satbari.

Apart from these farmhouse transactions, the NCR region has witnessed high-profile deals in other real estate sections too. EaseMyTrip Co-founder Rikant Pitti recently bought a commercial property worth about INR 99.34 crore in Gurugram. The 4,050 sq metre commercial property is located near Rajiv Chowk in Gurugram's Sector 32. In October last year, MakeMyTrip group CEO Rajesh Magow purchased a 6,428 sq ft apartment in DLF Magnolias for about INR 33 crore.
