PM Modi initiates infrastructure boost in Assam with projects over INR 11,600 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday declared the start of development projects worth over INR 11,600 crore, a major step towards strengthening Assam's infrastructure. The prime minister presented a number of projects that are jointly funded by the state and federal governments with the goal of improving the state's urban and rural infrastructure at an event held at the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara, Guwahati.

Among the key projects unveiled, the development of the Kamakhya temple corridor stands out with an allocation of INR 498 crore, aimed at boosting tourism and preserving cultural heritage. Furthermore, the launch of a six-lane road connecting the new airport terminal in Guwahati, with a budget of INR 358 crore, promises to improve connectivity and reduce travel time for residents and visitors alike. The upgradation of Nehru Stadium to meet FIFA standards, at a cost of INR 831 crore, and the establishment of a new INR 300 crore sports complex in Chandrapur, reflect a significant investment in sports infrastructure.

The Prime Minister also initiated the second phase of 'Asom Mala' roads project, which includes the upgrade and construction of 43 new roads along with 38 concrete bridges, representing an investment of INR 3,444 crore. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance road connectivity across the state, facilitating economic growth and accessibility.

In the healthcare sector, Modi laid the foundation for a comprehensive overhaul of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital with an investment of INR 3,250 crore, alongside the establishment of the Karimganj Medical College and Hospital for INR 578 crore. These projects underscore the government's commitment to improving healthcare services in the region.

Additionally, the inauguration of the Unity Mall in Guwahati, with an investment of INR 297 crore, marks a step towards modernizing the city's retail and commercial landscape.

Two significant road projects were also inaugurated by the Prime Minister: a four-lane road from Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur, developed with INR 1,451 crore, and another from Dolabari to Jamuguri, costing INR 592 crore. These projects are expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow and contribute to the region's overall economic development.

Prime Minister Modi's visit to Assam, including an overnight stay at the Koinadhara State Guest House and a meeting with the BJP's state core committee, underscores the central government's focus on the northeastern region's development. The meeting included discussions on party affairs and future strategies with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and other senior leaders, highlighting the collaborative approach towards state development.
