Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three significant infrastructure projects in Kochi, Kerala, collectively valued at over Rs 4,000 crore. These projects include the New Dry Dock (NDD) at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) of CSL, and the LPG Import Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Puthuvypeen, Kochi. The Prime Minister highlighted the alignment of these projects with his vision to revolutionize India's ports, shipping, and waterways sector, emphasizing their role in building capacity and self-sufficiency.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi underscored the importance of each state in India's journey towards becoming a 'Viksit Bharat' during the Amrit Kaal. He reflected on the historical significance of ports in India's prosperity and envisioned a renewed role for ports in the current era of India's global trade prominence. The government's focus on strengthening port cities like Kochi, including increased port capacity, infrastructure investment, and enhanced connectivity under the Sagarmala Project, received praise from the Prime Minister.
PM Modi acknowledged the inauguration's positive impact on the development of Kerala and the southern region, noting that the newly inaugurated facilities, including the country's largest dry dock, would significantly boost shipbuilding, ship repairing, and the LPG sector. The Prime Minister celebrated the 'Made in India' INS Vikrant aircraft carrier built at the Kochi Shipyard, expressing confidence that the new facilities would substantially enhance the shipyard's capabilities.
Highlighting the reforms undertaken in the ports, shipping, and waterways sector over the past decade, PM Modi noted the surge in investments and job opportunities resulting from these initiatives.
Referring to the International Ship Repair Facility, PM Modi predicted that it would transform Kochi into Asia's largest ship repair center. He expressed confidence in the development of a new ecosystem of MSMEs, drawing parallels with the collaborative manufacturing of INS Vikrant.
