The final day to avail of rebate on property tax interest saw the Haryana sports department taking proactive measures by depositing outstanding dues of Rs 2.2 crore for both the Tau Devi Lal Sports Stadium and Rajiv Gandhi Sports Park with the Panchkula Municipal Corporation (MC). This action aimed not only to ensure the settlement of dues but also to safeguard these important facilities from potential sealing. The interest rebate served as an incentive, prompting numerous departments and residents to promptly pay their property taxes to the MC. In response to this heightened demand, the tax branch extended its operational hours, even accommodating taxpayers on Sundays.
MC officials proudly touted a notable achievement, highlighting a record-breaking property tax collection of Rs 17.05 crore within the past nine months. The success of this significant financial feat was attributed to a well-executed campaign strategically launched by the MC, designed to effectively mobilise and collect property taxes from various segments of the populace.
Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal expressed his unwavering commitment and continuous efforts toward bolstering the MC's income, visibly reflected in the current results. He emphasised the pivotal role played by officials in raising awareness about property tax, noting that in previous years, property tax figures never exceeded Rs 11 crore. Goyal earnestly urged and appealed to residents to prioritise and ensure timely property tax payments, crucial for sustaining and enhancing the city's growth and development.
Within the tax collection branch, employees demonstrated commendable dedication and diligence, diligently working from 9 am to 5 pm, ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the property tax collection process.
A comprehensive overview revealed that the Panchkula MC oversees a significant portfolio of 1,02,750 properties. Of particular note, the month of December marked a significant milestone with the highest property tax collection amounting to Rs 4.13 crore, signalling increased compliance and participation.
Mayor Goyal reiterated the crucial role of property tax in the MC's financial sustenance, emphasising that the contributions made by residents served as the lifeblood of the city's ongoing development initiatives.
In a bid to ensure a seamless and hassle-free property tax payment experience, Mayor Goyal instructed officials to organise specialised camps for property ID corrections, thereby facilitating greater convenience for residents.
Despite the laudable progress, there remained a substantial amount of outstanding dues, including a significant sum of Rs 95 crore yet to be collected from major government and private buildings. With a sense of urgency, Mayor Goyal issued clear directives to officials, emphasising the immediate need to expedite the collection of dues from these defaulters.
The MC remains steadfast in its commitment to property tax as the primary revenue source. Continual efforts aimed at streamlining tax collection procedures and engaging with defaulters underscore the MC's dedication to ensuring that residents play an active and crucial role in contributing to the city's ongoing and sustained development through their prompt and dutiful tax payments.
