Ahead of the upcoming elections, Deputy Chief Minister and Nagpur District Guardian Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the swift implementation of all proposals by the District Planning Committee (DPC) before the model code of conduct takes effect. The DPC, in a recent meeting, approved a substantial budget of Rs 668.72 crore for the upcoming fiscal year, with an additional demand of Rs.1,431 crore, bringing the district's total demand to an impressive Rs.2,100 crore.
The approved draft plan for 2024-25 covers general, scheduled caste sub-plan, and tribal component programs. Once the draft plan, including the additional demand, gets a green light in the state-level meeting, it will proceed to final approval.
Fadnavis highlighted the commitment to rural development by announcing an increase in the financial limit, specifically focusing on changing criteria for gymnasiums in rural areas. However, concerns were raised by MLA Nitin Raut regarding the purchase of inferior materials in sports-related projects.
A noteworthy adjustment in the budget was the cutting down of allocation for the construction of a mall for self-help groups at Badkas Chowk from Rs. 25 crore to Rs. 12 crore. MLC Pravin Datke expressed concern that the project had been stalled for over a decade.
Adding an element of community support, Fadnavis handed over five fire tenders and 11 SUVs to municipal councils and rural police in Mauda, Parseoni, Hingna, Wanadongri, and Kanhan-Pimpri. These acquisitions were made possible through DPC funds, enhancing the region's emergency response capabilities.
As the political landscape heats up in anticipation of the elections, the DPC's ambitious financial plan aims to address key developmental needs. Fadnavis' call for swift implementation adds a sense of urgency, setting the stage for dynamic progress in the district.
