SAFEMA initiates auction of Dawood-linked properties in Ratnagiri

Authorities are set to auction four agricultural properties in Khed taluka, Ratnagiri, connected to Dawood Ibrahim's mother, Amina Bi. Located in Mumbake village, Khed, where Dawood and his siblings spent part of their childhood. The auction is being conducted under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act, 1976 (SAFEMA) under the Union Ministry of Finance.

The four properties set for auction this time around have a collective reserve price of Rs 19.2 lakh, varying in size and corresponding reserve values. The auction will employ three modes - e-auction, public auction, and tender in sealed envelopes - conducted simultaneously to enhance accessibility and participation. These properties were seized by authorities in previous years, reinforcing the government's proactive stance in handling assets connected to individuals involved in criminal activities.

Bidders must submit earnest money deposits, and the responsibility to transfer the property lies with the successful bidder. Over the past nine years, SAFEMA has auctioned 11 properties associated with Dawood or his kin, emphasizing a stringent approach towards property associated with the fugitive terrorist. The auctioned properties have generated significant revenue, reflecting the government's commitment to addressing financial implications related to individuals involved in illicit activities.

Notably, Dawood Ibrahim's alleged poisoning in Pakistan, reported just a fortnight ago, sparked speculations about his health, countered by his close aide Chhota Shakeel refuting the claims. This auction follows SAFEMA's successful 2017 auction of properties linked to Dawood, underlining continued efforts to manage and repurpose assets associated with individuals involved in criminal enterprises.
