Thane Municipal Commissioner takes strong measures against unauthorized constructions

Last week, the Municipal Commissioner of Thane Abhijit Bangar, directed civic officials to maintain “zero tolerance” towards unauthorized construction in the city. He emphasized that stringent measures would be taken against individuals associated with such structures. This directive follows the suspension of a senior Thane Municipal Corporation official, accused of safeguarding illegal constructions.

Senior officials have been cautioned about potential consequences for unauthorized construction. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) commissioner instructed them to adhere strictly to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s directive to demolish all illegal structures, as stated in a civic body release. Bangar emphasized the prioritized action on water connections to these unauthorized constructions.

He urged officials to enlist the assistance of demolition experts in the process of bringing down multi-storeyed structures. Bangar specifically instructed officials to utilize personnel from the Maharashtra Security Board for support during demolition operations, as mentioned in the release.

During the meeting, he instructed beat inspectors and beat mukadams to conduct daily surveys of ward areas, promptly reporting any unauthorized constructions and ensuring they do not progress beyond the plinth level. Bangar issued a stern warning to senior officials and water supply department personnel, stating that disciplinary measures would be taken if the proliferation of illegal constructions persisted, especially if they were granted water connections.
