Over 64,000 Ludhiana property owners benefit from One-Time Settlement scheme

In Ludhiana, over 64,000 property owners are benefiting from the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme, successfully clearing pending tax dues without incurring penalties or interest. The scheme, allowing owners to deposit property tax by December 31, has prompted the municipal corporation (MC) to encourage residents to seize this opportunity promptly. MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, in a meeting at the MC zone-D office, directed civic officials to expedite the recovery of property tax and water-sewer user charges.
Norms stipulate a 20% penalty and 18% annual interest on overdue property tax for residents who haven't paid in the past. However, the OTS policy, announced by the state government, permits residents to settle pending taxes in a lump sum without penalties or interest until December 31, 2023.
Since the OTS scheme's introduction in September, over 64,000 property owners have availed themselves of this benefit, contributing to an impressive revenue generation of approximately Rs 6.42 crore for the MC.
MC Chief Rishi sees this as a golden opportunity for residents and has directed civic officials to expedite the recovery of dues. The funds recovered play a crucial role in undertaking city development works and providing essential amenities.
Residents can conveniently pay their tax and bills online by visiting the MC's website – mcludhiana.gov.in, or at MC's suvidha kendras located in all four zonal offices. Additionally, residents can avail themselves of a 10% rebate on water-sewer user charges for the current financial year. Civic body officials affirm that bills for the current financial year (2023-24) have already been issued online.
This initiative not only facilitates efficient tax collection but also encourages residents to leverage online payment options, reducing the inconvenience of long queues. The MC's commitment to expediting the recovery process and utilizing the recovered funds for civic development underscores the significance of timely tax payments in fostering citywide progress. The successful implementation of the OTS scheme reflects the positive impact of proactive government policies on encouraging tax compliance and financial responsibility among citizens.
